Trained as an Occupational Therapist, Janet Wagland has worked for 28 years at Brightwater Care Group in Western Australia in a number of roles predominantly related to the care and support of people with complex neurological disability. Her current role of General Manager Community gives her oversight of all of Brightwater’s Disability Services, as well as its services for people who are ageing in the community. Over the years she has integrated her professional knowledge with years of experience in the health and disability sectors to offer services that enable people to have influence and control over their lives and the support structure around them. Janet is a well-known and much-respected voice in the disability sectors locally, nationally and internationally, and has been instrumental over these years with Brightwater in the development of Disability Services, especially the world-leading Oats Street slow stream rehabilitation program for people with Acquired Brain Injury. Those services have developed a strong focus on providing opportunities for people with a range of neurological and psychosocial disabilities ensuring that each individual is able to direct and manage their own life outcomes.
